"Change is inevitable", "Change is the only constant", "Change is the absolute necessity" - we all have been reading these one-liners since ages. However, how much have we tried to inculcate these lessons in our day-to-day lives? There is very meaningful satire that I came across very recently. It comments upon the intensity of resistance that we all develop on being faced with the era of a fast-changing world. It says, that the only human form on the planet who is happy with the change is a crawling toddler with a wet diaper!
The Father of our nation had once said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world". With due respect to the thoughts and ideas of the great man and with no intention of violating any intellectual property right, I have twisted the saying a bit and renamed my post as 'Be the change you wish to see in the government'. The reasons are obvious. We often hear a huge hue and cry over the malfunctioning of the government and it's agencies. However, many of us fail to understand that 50% of our problems (or even more) can be solved if we work on our own 'self-improvement' at individual level. It is a wrong notion among many of us that individually, we can't bring about any significant change in the country - a country which has a population of over 1.25 billion. Each and every effort counts. Each and every initiative has borne fruits in the past and will do so in the future as well.
Below is a small effort to map the changes that we all wish to see in our governments to the changes that we can bring about in each of us individually and hence contribute to the building of a resilient nation.

Have you been criticizing the laundering of black money?
Is corruption a constant source of your mental agony?
If that is so, then pay your taxes duly and diligently.
Do you want the ruling party to tackle the increasing crimes on priority?
Do the incidents of crime against women appear to you to be of utmost gravity?
If that is so, then build up your moral values thoroughly.
Are you agitated about rivers being dumped with sewage loads?
Do you often complain of scattered garbage on the battered roads?
If that is so, then cease from littering the public places.
Do not blame and do not lament,
Be the change you wish to see in the government.
Are you skeptical about driving in the accident-prone area of the city?
Are you often blaming the traffic police for neglecting their duty?
If that is so, then do adhere to the traffic rules genuinely.
Are you unhappy about the increasing red-tapism in the country's bureaucracy?
Do you think that some unhealthy factors pose a big threat to the world's largest democracy?
If that is so, then do make correct decisions and elect honest leaders in the country of millions.
The governments are not formed by some extra-terrestrial aliens,
The leaders of today were once the nation's ordinary citizens.
Some of us might be prospective leaders of tomorrow; let's not be prejudiced, let's have rational options.
